RIVERS: The dance between facilitation and leadership

Leadership is the art of stepping up, of having a vision and guiding change. Its is about being courageous enough to speak up and give direction, to provide clarity. It's about stewarding a journey, pointing out pathways that arise out of the current moment. It is about gereatively handling power.

Facilitation is about listening to the whole, about tending to what wants to be born. About setting the outlines of a container that allows people to express their true self in respect to the selves of the others. It's about clearing up the way and helping people to stay together on a journey. It is about midwife/ing the emergent.

Can leadership and facilitation exist together? For me, they are two sides of the same coin. A beautiful example of the diverse dualities in living systems, which in the end form a whole. A dance, a movement towards balance. Yin & Yan.

Finding myself in a place where I can practice this dance is such an incredible gift!
